You can go to a college near you that has an Audiology clinic, usually if they sell hearing aids they are for a greatly discounted price. Places like specific hearing aid centers are trying to make a buck. Yes I will agree hearing aids are expensive, but for what you get it’s worth it. I would also suggest going to an audiologist because they have four years of medical training in the ear and it’s functions, plus they can diagnose and explain if there is anything else wrong with your hearing as to where just a run of the mill hearing aid center can only tell you what your level of hearing loss is. A used hearing aid means that the hearing aid is not made specifically for you, for example, if it is an in the canal or completely in the canal hearing aid, or has an ear mold on it, it will not fit your ear as it wasn’t made for you. If it’s a behind the ear hearing aid you would need to get the length of the tube measured that runs from the behind the ear microphone to the amplifier in your ear. The hearing aids are also specially calibrated to your needs, like a special setting for T.V. or phone, as well as being calibrated according to your specific audiogram which shows the level of hearing loss. Please do the intelligent thing and go to someone who knows that they are talking about and not just someone trying to make money.
Wow, what type of hearing aids are you buying? that is terribly expensive! I have hearing aids on both ears but came from the Starkey Foundation. I have, however, seen hearing aids online for about $1000 each. Try the Siemens website.
yes you can buy used hearing aids, of course there is the chance that the hearing aid doesn’t work properly if it is shipped to you, so if you do buy used, buy local. It is not unsanitary, why? because you would only be using the hearing aid, the mold that goes inside your ear HAS to be made for you and only you by a audiologist. They cost about $50 each [the molds].
I have worked in the hearing aid business for 5 years now.
I have to be honest and say we get what we pay for, ya know?
It has to do with different levels of technology also.
there are many out there that will sell for more than 5,000.00
By the way, used aids are refirbished parts.
In some states it’s illegal to re-sell hearing aids.
