Can Professional Athletes Suffer From Hearing Loss?

Can professional athletes develop hearing loss because they spend their time in stadiums that are very loud? If yes, why are they not wearing any protection like ear plugs?

Ok, use your brain. If you use ear plugs or ear protection, how are you gonna hear the plays, audibles, and snap count? I say you can get a hearing loss but you can’t prevent it. I was born with a hearing problem and I played football for 13 years and it was hard to hear the plays as it is. Imagine if they wore ear plugs.

This is why you see musicians wearing plugs. They’re specially designed to let what they need to hear come through and block out damaging noise.
You could purchase earplugs from an audiologist. She can help you pick the correct model for what you need them for. ie: different type of filters to filter in/out certain sounds.
I use a company called Westone for the earplugs I sell. This is a good link for you to get more information on noise exposure and hearing protection. http://www.westone.com/content/73.html
    Good Luck

Its not as loud on the field as it is in the stadiums. I suppose they could, but they don’t all necessarily. Some do use earplugs similar to musicians as stated above…but most don’t.
